Sean Madden, creative director from the ad agencyBrains On Fire, reached out to me earlier this year and asked if given an arsenal of stunt drivers, the newest high performance BMW’s, and a closed race course, could I create a 58 foot long composite print for BMW. My answer? “When can I start?”. Read more […]
When you travel on assignment over 100k miles a year like I do, you start to learn the importance of durable cases for your gear and slimming down on weight to save on baggage fees. For years I have been flying around with the Pelican 1650 to protect my flashes. I had it so fine-tuned […]
I’ve been working on a personal photo series capturing movie and television cars (real and replica)for about 5 years now under the title “The Unicorn Project”. Most recently, I had an opportunity to photograph a replica A-Team Van and KITT from Knight Rider while I was in Los Angeles. These happen to be two of my […]
Every year, as the holiday season comes around, people will email and message me asking what to buy themselves or a loved one to start or expand upon their love for photography. A camera that offers interchangeable lenses, easy to use, good quality, compact, reliable, and can be had for under $1000 with a lens. […]
Just wrapped the 10+ hour official 2014 photoshoot for Dale Earnhardt Jr and the #88 National Guard Nascar team down in Hammerhead studios in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was awesome! I’ve always wanted to take Dale Jr’s portrait. He’s one of my favorite NASCAR drivers, so I was really honored when I was contacted to […]
For those of you that are unfamiliar with what Not A Bully is: I have created a new dog portrait series dedicated to telling the story of rescued/adopted bully breed dogs (particularly Pitbull and Pit mixes) that suffered difficult early lives, but despite their early challenges have returned to the community as wonderful service animals, family dogs, […]
Last month I was in Las Vegas shooting a cover feature on Brendon Urie, the lead singer of the band Panic At The Disco. I’m so pleased with how the entire shoot panned out. I can’t show you all of the photos until the magazine is out next month, but here are a few approved […]
Recently, I was in the Mojave Desert filming a music video project. The plot was centered around a road trip starring the musician and her friends. I cannot say much more than that, but I can say I had the opportunity to transport the vehicle between locations along historic Route 66. I mean, if you […]
I recently started upgrading my Paul C Buff White Lightning flash heads with the Profoto D1 Air mono-flash heads. Being an on-location portrait photographer, easy power sources are very important to me. Sometimes I will land in a city and will need to go right to right to set and picking up a generator isn’t […]
Photo Magazine in Honk Kong interviewed me while I was on my Phase One speaking tour through China. Looks like they profiled my work very prominently! I’m honored! It’s really exciting to be able to share my work with the literal other side of the planet. Now if someone would translate it for me! Haha.
Behind The Scenes Of My Photoshoot With A Custom Transformers Bumblebee Edition Camaro (With Light Diagram)
Just had a fun quick 30 minute shoot shoot with this custom Chevrolet Camaro by Bubba’s East Coast Rods and Customs in Northern Virginia. Shot with this with my Phase One IQ140 medium format, two 1200 watt strobes on battery packs, a circular polarizer filter to minimize reflections on the paint. Processed with the big help of Nik […]
Do you like behind the scenes videos? Want to see how I put together a lot of my shoots? I added a huge video gallery to my website so you can see most of the behind the scenes photo and video shoot videos I have ever created. Even if you follow most things I post, […]
Few months ago, I did this fun portrait series of luchador fighters from the Chikara Pro Wrestling League. I brought a red fabric backdrop to their gym and spent the afternoon taking photos. Lighting was accomplished with a beauty dish overhead, an Alien Bees ring flash I laid on the ground for fill light (you […]
Greetings fellow creatives and Canadians! I have been recruited to teach workshops at the upcoming Profusion Pro Imaging Expo taking place June 18-19 2013 in Toronto. Aside from doing some rad Phase One and Profoto demos, I will also be teaching workshops like: “The Power of Marketing your Personal Brand” and “Shooting a Music Video/Short […]
Last week I had a photoshoot with rapper / actor LL Cool J. This was another fast session, only having about 10-15 minutes with the artist, but this is nothing new for me! LL was a true class act. Friendly and warm with myself and the entire crew. It made my job very easy. Some […]
I recently ventured into West Virginia to do a personal (fun) shoot on a horse farm. Just an opportunity to mess around for a couple of hours on a beautiful day. Most of the shots were done with one or two lights, combined with ambient light. You can really see the dynamic range of the […]
My portrait of Rod Stewart: 3 minutes of setup (due to multiple location and schedule changes on the talent side, which is normal on a portrait taking place the same day as a concert) & literally 2 shutter clicks before the shoot was wrapped. Taken with my Phase One IQ140 with their brand new 75-150 […]

Over the weekend, I turned another year older. Hard to imagine, but despite my antics, I have survived to live another year. Coincidentally, the Phase One worldwide team was in town here in Washington DC as well as the US distributor and retailer of digital format systems, Digital Transitions (they sold me my Phase One […]
We shot this a few months ago in Miami under my production company 8112 Studios. Will do a full behind the scenes post for Fstoppers.com!
My production company, 8112 Studios, shot this music video for our friends Crash Boom Bang a few months ago. Below is a sneak peak of how we created the earthquake scene. Check out the video!
Great intro to studio lighting class today in the Washington DC area! Thanks to everyone that came out and collaborated. We discussed the fundamentals of portrait lighting, light modifiers, shaping light, and telling a story with light. I will be doing more classes in a city near you in the future!
