Bathroom Portrait With Lighting Diagram – Photoshoot Over The Weekend

Click image to see it full-sized.
Had a photoshoot over the weekend. Here is one of the images I really liked from the shoot. Took this in a bathroom later in the day when the sun was low, but the sky was cloudy. The sunlight coming in through the window was nice and glowing and the white surfaces in the bathroom served as natural reflectors. I used a single White Lightning x1600 strobe with a 7″ reflector and 30 degree grid to put a spot on the subject’s face to make sure he popped a little bit from the background. Overall the image was all about balance between ambient light and strobe flash.
Lighting diagram and camera settings after the break…
Camera Settings:
- Canon EOS 5D Mark 2 & 16-35 2.8L
- 1/50th at f/4.5 (It’s always a challenge to keep the camera steady and sharp at that shutter speed and maintain an f-stop that keeps the depth of field shallow, but the image sharp)
- ISO: 800
- Focal Length: 16mm
